What you will do: The successful apprentice will experience working with a telecoms design team working on a major UK-wide Rail Projects and delivering telecoms designs for Network Rail and Light Rail infrastructure technology. Primarily concentrating on Station Information & Security Systems, you can expect to work on all engineering phases of project lifecycles. You will also be expected to visit client sites to understand how the technology is installed, maintained and repaired. This will allow you to build an understanding of how a project is completed from design to implementation. * Develop a solid understanding of the projects and learn how Rail communication systems are designed, used and developed. * Learn how to produce detailed design using Design Tools such as Visio and AutoCAD. * Working with Lead SISS design engineers with a focus on supporting survey, design, assurance, and integration work * Gain an understanding of the design lifecycle as well as gaining an insight into client requirements. * To assist the Design Team with the delivery of key design projects and working towards strict deadlines. * Escalate design issues where necessary and help manage the mitigation of risks and issues. * To understand and adhere to the Health & Safety requirements of the UK rail infrastructure. * How to interface with other operational engineer departments. * Produce and update project resource plans to assist with design delivery. * Use tools such as Microsoft suite of applications and AutoCAD / MicroStation / Visio / PDFs. * Liaise with our client project timelines. * Visit client sites and learn how products are installed, maintained, repaired, tested and commissioned. * Produce detailed surveys from client sites.
