Job Description

The SHIELD research project is a collaboration between TIB, Safeguarding Research and Culture (SRC) and Data Rescue Project (DRP). The aim of the project is to establish a sustainable, decentralized and openly networked infrastructure for the long-term preservation and resilience of endangered scientific and technological research data sets, especially those of central importance to European research. This will be based largely on an instance of SciOp (using BitTorrent) operated by TIB and TIB's infrastructure for long-term digital archiving. As a data engineer/ research data manager, you will be primarily responsible for the systematic acquisition of data from selected sources (including through web scraping), checking the licensing of secured data as well as the structured description and import of data into TIB systems such as long-term archiving and SciOp. You will work closely with stakeholders in US research agencies and potential data users, including those involved in National Research Data Infrastructures (NFDIs), to identify data security needs and opportunities. You will be able to apply your skills in handling large and complex data sets with a high degree of personal responsibility. In doing so, you will coordinate with the Research Data Services, Long-Term Archiving and Legal Department at the TIB. You will also provide helpful feedback on the operation and further development of SciOp at the TIB. Your tasks include * Systematic acquisition of freely accessible data sets, in particular from US research authorities and similar sources * Reviewing the licensing and reuse rights of data sets to be secured * Designing and implementing data description and conversion for target systems at the TIB (digital long-term archiving and SciOp) * Communication with stakeholders at US research agencies and potential data users, including in the context of NFDIs * Collaboration on the development of a sustainable, decentralized and openly networked infrastructure for the long-term preservation and resilience of endangered scientific and technological research data sets
