Job Description

Looking for an Engineering apprenticeship in Kent? Earn while you learn at MidKent College. Engineering is a large and diverse industry with a demand for skilled recruits in a range of different industries. Our Engineering apprenticeship could start you off in a career in anything from aerospace or automotive to the energy or marine sector. You could be involved in research, maintenance or being the creative mind behind innovations and discoveries. You have the opportunity to specialise in an Engineering apprenticeship at MidKent College within mechanical, fabrication and welding, electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering. What will I learn? Depending on your choice of apprenticeship, you’ll learn a whole range of modern theories and practical techniques, as well as the all-important health and safety to underpin this. You’ll also learn how to communicate technical information and vital teamwork skills. Our lecturers all have experience within the industry, so are best placed to advise you on your career progression. How will I be assessed? Your dedicated training officer will assess most of your learning in your workplace. You’ll also complete English, maths and ICT qualifications at a level to suit you. What will I get from an Engineering apprenticeship? * A nationally recognised qualification * GCSEs in English and maths (dependent on previous level of qualification) * Relevant and applicable industry experience * Once fully qualified, marine engineers can earn £24,000-£55,000 per year.* How do I apply for an apprenticeship? Choose the level of Engineering apprenticeship that is most appropriate to you from the selection of programmes above. A level 2 apprenticeship is approximately equivalent to GCSE, level 3 to A level and level 4 to degree level. Select “Apply”, register your email address and then complete the required details. You’ll need to meet set entry requirements, and we’ll invite you in for an interview, and possibly an assessment, depending on the level. But it’s nothing to worry about! ENGINEERING STUDY PROGRAMMES How much do apprentices earn? Employers must provide their apprentices with a contract of employment for a minimum of 30 hours per week, which should include your attendance at College. Apprentices must be paid at least the National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage, but this can be increased at the discretion of your employer. What careers are available? * Electronic engineer * Project manager * Design engineer * Electrical engineer * Technical support technician * Maintenance engineer. Why choose MidKent College? As you progress and more become more experienced and specialised, you could expect to earn up to £40,000 per year. Is there demand for civil engineers?
