




As a Lifting Apprentice at Sulzer, you will gain hands-on experience and foundational knowledge in safe and efficient lifting operations within an industrial setting. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, learning to operate various lifting equipment and contribute to critical projects. As a Lifting Operations Apprentice, you’ll be part of the workshop and site teams responsible for handling some of the largest and most complex rotating equipment in the industry. Your role will include: * Supporting the safe lifting, movement, and positioning of heavy pumps and components, some weighing up to 150 tonnes. * Learning correct rigging and slinging techniques, including selecting the right lifting accessories and preparing loads for lifting. * Assisting with crane operations, working under supervision to plan lifts, attach loads, and guide crane movements. * Inspecting lifting gear and equipment, ensuring chains, slings, shackles, and lifting beams are safe, certified, and fit for purpose. * Reading and understanding lifting plans, risk assessments, and method statements as part of safe system of work training. * Supporting workshop operations, helping to move large components between work areas for repair, assembly, or testing. * Maintaining accurate records for lifting equipment inspections, usage, and compliance requirements. * Following strict health, safety, and environmental procedures, including safe manual handling, hazard awareness, and equipment checks. * Working alongside experienced lifting technicians, engineers, and workshop teams to gain practical skills and professional confidence. * Contributing to continuous improvement, helping identify safer or more efficient ways to plan and execute lifts. * This apprenticeship will be delivered on a day‑release basis, with one dedicated day each week spent at college/training provider
