The Accelerated Materials Discovery Group at IMDEA Materials Institute is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join a project at the forefront of materials innovation. The focus of the research is on accelerating the discovery and development of polymer-based materials through the use of laboratory automation and self-driving laboratories. The selected candidate will play a key role in the design and implementation of an autonomous experimental platform. This platform will integrate collaborative and research robots for automated experimentation, alongside machine learning algorithms to optimize and control experimental workflows. The PhD student will become part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team dedicated to autonomous experimentation, with opportunities to explore additional cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and materials informatics in the context of advanced materials discovery. As part of the IMDEA community, the successful applicant will also benefit from a comprehensive training program in transferable skills offered by the Project Management Office. This includes workshops and courses on project management, leadership, grant writing, funding strategies, intellectual property, and science communication for both expert and general audiences.
