Job Description

As the UK’s largest independent engineering and services business, our innovative, responsible and forward-thinking approach has enabled us to work on fantastic ground-breaking projects, providing innovative solutions using the latest tools and technologies. Our values of Passion, Integrity, Responsibility and Excellence form the foundation of our company and guide the way we work and behave. At NG Bailey, we recognise the importance of having apprentices in our workforce. Our industry-leading approach develops the behaviours, skills, knowledge, and experience our apprentices need to build a successful career. We work in partnership with a national network of colleges to offer some of the best training in the industry. Apprenticeships are available for anyone over 16 years of age. They offer you the opportunity to earn a wage and work full time in your chosen trade area. This means you develop your skills in a real working environment from day one and are able put the skills you learn at college, directly into practice at work. Do you want to work on exciting projects that challenge you daily and get paid while you do it? Do you want to assist in planning and managing the commercial activities required to maintain and maximise profits? Do you want to walk past a building and know you played your part in its journey? If the answer to these questions is yes, then join NG Bailey and be part of the next generation who bring to life the next nuclear power station, hospital, school or theme park. Maybe you’ll help save the environment in your own small way by being involved in the early work for a new wind farm or battery factory. About the Programme: This is a Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship. * 5 years to complete your degree, followed by an additional year to achieve full chartered status (MRICS). * You’ll attend university during term time while gaining hands-on experience across our projects. * On completion, you’ll graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and achieve RICS Chartered status. As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, a typical day will be diverse, challenging and rewarding. We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic people to join our experienced Engineering and Commercial teams, where you can learn from the industry’s best. As an NG Bailey apprentice you will: * Train at one of the top performing universities in the country. * Learn about our award-winning approach to working safely. * Work both in an office and visit construction sites. * Be prepared for early starts and travel away from home when necessary. * Develop great working relationships with some of the industry’s most talented people. * Have a strong support network giving you the chance to build your confidence and use your initiative. Your responsibilities will expand as your skills and confidence grow throughout the programme. Typically, progression will include: * Year 1 - Learning the basics of construction and industry terminology, commercial processes, and gaining an introduction to procurement and site processes. * Year 2 - Assisting with detailed take-offs, pricing variations, and procurement of materials and equipment, while supporting cash flow forecasts and productivity tracking. * Year 3 - Taking responsibility for subcontractors, managing variations, and developing skills in commercial risk assessment and change control. * Year 4 - Managing significant elements of commercial delivery, lead procurement for allocated systems, and preparing cost reports for project leads. * Year 5 - Taking commercial responsibility for a project relative in size, leading tender analysis and negotiations, managing subcontractor accounts, and mentoring junior staff. * Beyond - Demonstrating advanced commercial and contractual expertise while preparing for RICS chartership, including presenting risk and cost updates to senior stakeholders.

  • Must be able to complete the apprenticeship within the required time, including the End-Point Assessment.
  • Must have a valid and eligible residency status and the right to work in England.
  • Must be ordinarily resident in the UK or its territories for at least 3 years before starting the apprenticeship.
